If you have a question about self publishing, we most likely have the answer.

Is your book the next self-published success story? _______________________

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you my publisher?
No. You are your own publisher. After your completed books arrive at your doorstep or warehouse you take it from there. You take over the selling, distribution, and promotion of your books. You are responsible for the success of your book!

Who owns the copyrights to my work?
You own the copyright and all selling rights to your work 100%.

Will you help me with promotions and distribution?
Yes. See the additional options on the pricing page. What One Stop Books can do is send out publicity and marketing packages including mailings to media, news, bookstores and distributors of your choice. We also can lead you in the direction of getting your books listed at Baker & Taylor and Ingram, the two major wholesalers. Baker & Taylor charges a fee for small publishers to enter their Partner's Program. Ingram only accepts direct submissions from publishers of 10 titles or more now, but there are programs you can go through to try to get listed through Ingram.

Are you a vanity press?
Absolutely not. A vanity press "publishes" your books for you, usually charges you an exhorbitant unexplained fee, and when your books are printed they charge you expensive prices (not including shipping) to buy your own books from them to sell to your friends and family. Instead of providing you with a set number of books on your doorstep, they will usually do what is called "Print on Demand" which means that copies of your book will only be printed when someone wants one. "Print on Demand" has a much higher per book fee and you as the author receive much less of a benefit per book, or have to charge a ridiculous retail price to make any money. Vanity presses will usually pay you a small royalty of 5-15% on your book sales.

One Stop Books is not a publisher, it is a book production company. Once you receive your books you own them, as well as the copyrights to them. When you need more books, you just call us and order more paying only the printing cost on the second go 'round! Or you can take your files and have the book printed on your own on the next run. It's up to you. One Stop Books does not take any percentage of your sales. You have the power to proceed with your own self publishing business and keep 100% of your profits from book sales. We will do everything in our power to make your book attractive and salesworthy.

What if my book is not successful?
Here is how it works in a nutshell. Unless you're an author with a fan base, most people will be attracted to your book because of the title, the cover, the synopsis and back cover copy. If they do buy it and read your book and the content is bad, they will not pass on the word.
One secret about book selling is that most people buy a book simply because someone else told them it was good.

A book's success is largely based on the story and the author's commitment to publicity. If people don't like your story, then they most likely won't refer it to their friends, and your sales won't grow. So it is very important, before self publishing a book, to make sure you have a good book on your hands. Maybe you'll want to have an honest friend or family member read your manuscript first, and give you an honest opinion about how good it is before investing money into it.

Then there is the commitment to marketing, selling and publicizing your book. Being a successful self-published author is a full time commitment. In short, your book's success is in your hands.

How are you able to offer such a low price for all of these services?
For one, most of the work is done inhouse; not contracted out. Because of this, we can offer you a low price for a lot of value. Secondly, the book text is sometimes printed digitally, which is a fairly new method used by printing companies. A digital print can be just as high a quality as offset for smaller quantities, and less expensive. We have contracted with a few reputable printers that do high quality digital and offset printing.

Who sets the retail price for my book?
You set and control the retail price of your book. If you need consultation on what price you should charge to be profitable, we will provide that at no additional charge. You really should be realistic when setting a price. For example most paperbound books go for $12 - $15 retail. If you, a new and unknown author, decide to charge $22 retail for your paperback, most people outside of your friends will probably pass your book up in the stores. So try to make the price of your book competitive.

How long will it take to receive my books in hand?
Anywhere from 2-3 months. You will be contacted at each crucial stage in the production process.

What if I need help or have questions after my books arrive?
When you produce your books with us, you have one month of free email consultation. If you have questions regarding your publishing process, we will answer them to the best of our ability and self-publishing knowledge via email at no additional charge for a period of one month after your books arrive.

How can I be sure that no one will steal my work?
An artistic work is actually protected as soon as it is created. But for legal protection, file for a copyright for your manuscript.

We will also sign a non-disclosure agreement with you that contains detailed information about your work if desired.
